Did you know that the good habits of effective people, when applied in your own life can make a big difference?
Have you ever wondered why one person you know of has managed to succeed in life while you have just seemed to coast through but never really achieved?
As an example, I have one friend who Is in an ok job earning around the UK average wage.
However many times he has told me about 2 of his school friends, One is now a high-flying building firm site manager and the other is a top solicitor in London.
Both of his old school friends earn over 6 figures yearly and are living a pretty good lifestyle.
So what was the difference? All 3 were from the same backgrounds, all lived in the same area and went to the same school.
Was it that the two friends applied themselves better? Perhaps.
Was it that they just got lucky with their decisions at certain points in their life? Again perhaps.
It could also have been that they adopted the never give up attitude that sometimes you need to succeed in life.
It got me thinking about the good habits of effective people and how if you applied them to your own life it could make a difference in how you act and react at certain points in your life and whether these good habits could make a large difference in being successful yourself.
I have done a fair bit of research on the topic and have come up with 17 habits of some of the most successful people around. What separates them from the rest and what gives them the drive to succeed in life where so many of us fail?
Follow my blog with BloglovinHABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE
1: GET UP EARLY
If you let your mind think of the successful people you know you may come up with a few. Now think of them lying in bed until 10 am. Doesn’t sit right does it?
My mind goes to people like Alan Sugar or Elon Musk, I can’t imagine either of these guys having a lie-in after a night of excess.
If anyone deserves to lie in bed for a few extra hours it is these guys.
The thing is they don’t and probably never have because to succeed in life you are going to need to put in the work and of course this takes time.
The more hours you have to get stuff done the more likely it is that you will succeed in whatever it is you are trying to do.
This could be overtime at your current job to earn more money. It could be spent learning something new to better your life or to further your career.
No further truth could be had than when my mother and I’m sure countless others said ” The early bird catches the worm”
Get up early and get a good start to your day.
2: EAT BREAKFAST
How is this one of the good habits of effective people I hear you ask, Is having a bowl of cereal going to make me succeed in life?
Well no but having a good healthy breakfast is imperative to your health.
Not only that but It does set you up for the day and remember when trying to be successful you will be working harder and longer and may not eat again for a while if you are busy which as I know only too well when I’m hungry and cannot concentrate on what I’m doing.
3: EXERCISE
So this doesn’t just count as good habits of effective people, This also is just one of those good habits you should try and get into the routine of doing.
If you exercise 3 times or more per week you will feel healthier, You will sleep better which will leave you feeling refreshed and ready for that early start the next day.
Exercising is also key to helping you live longer and suffer from fewer illnesses which means you are more likely to succeed in life as you have more time in which to learn and work.
I run and hit the gym 3 to 4 times a week and have done now for 3 years. It certainly keeps me more healthy.
4: SET DAILY GOALS:
This is another one of those good habits to get into, Will it help you succeed in life?, Maybe but what it will do is to give you something to aim for every day.
It will help give you some drive and determination as well as improve your ability to focus on the tasks at hand.
Listen, I had goals for my blog, Some I have hit and in good time and others I have failed miserably at.
The goals I succeeded with helped motivate me to keep pushing on when times were tough.
The goals I failed made me more determined to reach those goals at a later date. Goals work well for everyone.
5: INSPIRE YOURSELF
Whenever I had a low day for my blog, Perhaps I had a low amount of traffic to my blog for that day or my earnings for that day were particularly poor, What I did was to look elsewhere for inspiration.
I had a few days where I couldn’t write a single article. A bit of a writer’s block if you will.
What I did was I looked at other bloggers’ content and found inspiration from that.
Take whatever it is that you are doing to try and succeed in life and if you are not getting the results you are looking for, take a step back and look at someone else’s results in the same kind of field as yours and use their success to boost your own.
6: READING
Reading is one of the most common good habits of effective people. Reading is not only good for the soul but it helps you garner knowledge.
Learning something new every day can help you think better and become more organized in your everyday life.
If you are not sure if you have the time to read you could always use audible books so you could combine learning something new whilst doing your daily exercise, thus not only getting fitter and increasing your knowledge but also organizing your time better with great time management.
7: NETWORKING
Whether you like networking or you dont I’m afraid it is crucial and one of those good habits of successful people.
If you can manage to meet and network with lots of like-minded individuals who are in the same field as yourself then it will only do you and your business good.
8: SLEEP
Getting enough sleep is hard enough for most of us but it is one of the top habits of effective people and just generally one of those good habits you should try to get into.
Getting a solid 8 hours sleep per night will increase your physical health and your mental health leaving you feeling so much better and ready to rule the day.
Try not to get less than 7 and try not to take more than 9 as both of these will not benefit you in any way. 8 hours Is the perfect amount of sleep.
Also, try and incorporate your daily read in the last 20 minutes before you sleep.
9: MULTIPLE INCOME STREAMS
This is one that I have been working on recently and it would benefit everyone, to be honest. What would you do if you lost your job tomorrow?
Ok yes, you would panic but you wouldn’t panic half as much if you had one or two different income streams bringing you some extra income each month.
It is a great way of making you financially more stable and protecting both you and your family from financial ruin should the worst happen of course.
I work a full-time job but I also have this blog bringing me in some money as well as I buy and sell or what is known as flipping items on eBay.
All of this means I am better protected should my main source of income disappear.
10: PMA
Positive mental attitude. It is a big thing when it comes to good habits to adopt. It can also help you succeed in life and I dont mean just in terms of being rich and successful I mean in terms of your love life and the things you may do outside of work.
A poor mental attitude can lead to you staying indoors more and saying no to opportunities instead of yes.
We can all have a poor mental attitude from time to time but the next time it happens just smile and say yes instead of no.
Who knows where that random impromptu coffee meet-up will lead?
Who knows what saying yes to helping a colleague out may get you in the future?
A positive mental attitude is key to progressing in life.
11: ROUTINE
When following the habits of successful people you need to look at their routines. Nearly all successful people will have spent a few hours creating a routine for them to follow.
A good routine can really help them with their time management which in turn means they are able to accomplish more throughout the day.
This doesn’t just work with successful people, You too can adopt a good routine as this is one of those good habits that you should try and implement into your own life.
Part of a successful person’s, never give up attitude is because they have a structure in their day-to-day lives and they have that because of their strict routines.
12: GREAT SELF CONTROL
It takes great self-control to succeed in life. It is one of the good habits of successful people that you will need in order to succeed in whatever you do.
The number of times a successful person must get asked if they want to go out for dinner or to go and hang with their friends and watch the football but they say no so they can get more hours of work in.
I love playing video games and sometimes when writing this blog the calling is too great and I have to jump on Xbox with some friends to just hang out and play games when I could be improving my blog to help me succeed.
I struggle because I have low self-control. Good self-control takes practice and you will need this if you are to succeed.
14: ITS NOT ALL ABOUT MONEY
Sure having money and lots of it offers up more opportunities than would be there for your average Joe.
Successful people realize that having lots of money is great but it’s about working hard so that you eventually end up with more time.
More time to spend with loved ones and friends. More time to spend with your kids. Time is far more essential than money.
Unfortunately having more time is only usually attainable when you have made the money to be able to afford to do this.
15: THEY ACT
Being able to act and make an instant decision is really hard to do. One of the best habits of successful people is being able to act when needed instead of just waiting for the perfect time to act.
Sometimes there is no perfect time you just need to make a decision and act upon it.
Don’t dither just act and make that call. It will probably be the right one.
16: PUT THE HOURS IN
Quite an obvious one but there are no 9 to 5’s in the world of successful people. I know some bloggers for example who would be up and out of bed at 5 am work on their blog for 2 hours and then go to their normal job until 5 pm.
They would then return home from their normal job and work on their blog from 6 pm until 11 pm.
Out of all of these bloggers I know that did this, All of them are now full-time bloggers earning 5K or more per month including my friend Ling over at Finsavvypanda.
They put in the hard graft and if you want to know the true habits of successful people then you should look no further than this one.
If you want to succeed in life then putting in the hours is a necessary task.
17: SEE ANY PROBLEMS AS A CHALLENGE
When most of us have a problem in our work or personal life we see it as an affront. An attack on the calmness of our day that winds us up and annoys us and most of the time we end up going home in a bad mood.
Well, one of the habits of successful people is they see a problem as a gift or challenge. They refocus and when the problem has been solved they see it as an accomplishment and that they have learned something.
SUMMARY:
Which out of all of these 17 habits of successful people would you most like to adopt and use in your day-to-day life?
For me, it’s certainly self-control and working hard. I already know I need to do these but sometimes it is hard.
